Since childhood, Yuuya Tenjou has been subjected to bullying, causing him emotional wounds. Despite living with his beloved grandfather and attending school, he continues to endure the relentless attacks of his tormentors. Eventually, Yuuya takes a long break from school to heal and recover. During his hiatus, Yuuya is occupied with tidying up his grandfather's home when he uncovers an unfamiliar room filled with various artifacts that his grandfather collected during his travels. As he arranges the items, Yuuya stumbles upon a hidden door that piques his curiosity. He unlocks the door, only to be stunned by what lies beyond.
Miyazaki wrote a manga for a children's newspaper that is more like a graphic novel with minimal dialogue bubbles and most text is outside of the frames. Despite this, the story is surprisingly dark and touches on themes of war, betrayal, and the ugliness of human nature. The influence of Tezuka Osamu can be seen in the art style, but Miyazaki's later works such as "Nausicaä" can also be detected. In fact, this manga can be considered a prototype of "Nausicaä." Several characters also meet their demise throughout the story.
