Sixteen "Ultimate" students gather at Hope's Peak Academy for the start of a new year, but upon entering the building, they suddenly pass out and awaken in a classroom. Usami, a pink and white bunny, greets them and announces they will embark on a school trip to an island. However, Monokuma, a black and white bear, disrupts their plans and reveals they must participate in a "School Killing Trip."
