Global affairs in the mid-21st century are largely managed by a massive computer network. Plans are underway to incorporate Spartacus, an artificial intelligence system, into the network through a software upgrade. The idea raises the concern of allowing non-human decision-makers to wield too much control. To evaluate Spartacus' capabilities, a miniature world in the form of a new space-station habitat is constructed for deployment and testing. Derived from Harutoshi Fukui's original Mobile Suit Gundam UC novels, the prequel manga revolves around the events of the Sengo no Sensō (The Postwar War) short story, featured in the 11th volume. It follows the Neo Zeon remnants' act of capturing the Sinanju Stein mobile suit.

The setting of Futatsu no Spica is an alternative future in which Japan's maiden human-crafted spacecraft crashed in 2010, and it follows the growth of these high schoolers as they travel toward the stars.

An alternative version of the Lost World
