Intrigued by her unconventional approach, Kyon engaged her in conversation, leading to the creation of the SOS Brigade - a school club dedicated to attracting supernatural beings. Kyon soon discovered that his fellow club members were not Haruhi's victims but rather allies who worked to prevent impending danger.
